House of Leaves - Mark Z. Danielewski Wow. That was an odd journey.

I was fearful after starting the book that the non-fiction, fictional part of the story would give me trouble and it did. For the first few hundred pages I could work through the details for the sake of both the story of the house, and Johnny's excitement, the slowly growing impending doom, but then...I started measuring my house, checking every closet, and started covering the windows with egg crates....

Sorry. Couldn't resist.

By the middle of the book I really lost interest in Johnny's ramblings, and couldn't force myself to read through the three lengthy theories of why Navy went back to the house for Exploration #5. (Although I did finish the book, and even read all the letters from Johnny's mom -- but I skipped the poems in Appendix II, Section B.)

I have massive respect for the writing of Mr. Danielewski and what he built here, but I just lost interest (perhaps simply more due to my inability to read non-fiction.) I am glad to have experienced this, and I will remember this book for a very long time.
